True Blood is still in production and although it isn’t airing until June, there are reports of new faces around the set. Among them are Cristopher Meloni (Law & Order:SVU), Peter Mensah (Spartacus), Carolyn Hennesy (Cougar Town), Christopher Heyerdahl (Hell on Wheels), Jacob Hopkins (How I Met Your Mother), and Giles Matthey.
Despite there being no word on who Cristopher Meloni will specifically play, the description of his character couldn’t be clearer. According to executive producer Alan Ball, Meloni will be “an ancient and powerful vampire with control over Bill and Eric’s fate.” He’ll be a series regular, and co-star Alexander Skarsård has recently revealed Meloni may or may not have some shirtless scenes, adding “He’s so hot.”
Peter Mensa is no stranger to being half naked and authoritative. The Spartacus doctore will be filling another powerful mans (or should be say vampire’s) shoes, by landing a recurring role as Kibwe, the Chancellor for the Vampire Authority, who “believes in a rehabilitation for prisoners over stricter punishment.” He’ll be out ‘mainstreaming,’ as Bill has been so often criticized for, but under Authority Leader Roman’s control.
Better known for being a no nonsense lawyer on General Hospital, and a hilariously naughty cougar on Cougar Town, Carolyn Hennesy is also going to be an authority council member, who’s character description states she’s a firm gal from texas with “hair high enough to interfere with air traffic.”
Christopher Heyerdahl knows his vampire business, the former Twilight Volturi character will be playing Dieter Braun. He’s described as “a mature and self-possessed, calm and authoritative figure, with a piercing gaze.” Dieter is also noted in using “innovative methods to torture a prisoner during an interrogation.”
As the youngest and last member of the Authority, Jacob Hopkins was cast in the recurring role of Alexander Drew, one of the Authority’s chancellors who was made into a vampire at the young age of 9-years-old. Alexander is describe as an “impetuous vampire” who likes to smoke and taunt those around him.
These five new characters will make their debut in the second episode of True Blood’s 5th season, entitled “Authority Always Wins.” It appears to be fitting.
Outside of the vampire world, British newcomer Giles Matthey was casted as the new Claude. Played previously by Neil Hopkins, Matthey will play Sookie’s faery cousin who according to E! Online, may be Jessica’s new love interest and described as being attractive, mysterious, and “omni-sexual”. He’ll be appearing in the third episode of True Blood’s 5th season, entitled “Whatever I Am, You Made Me.”
True Blood Season 5 premieres in June 2012 on HBO.
